Getting rained on at the Padang during Singapore’s first National Day Parade in 1966; taking part in the first Great Singapore Workout on its open playing field; experiencing the profound silence that washed over the Padang during the 2015 NDP celebrations as parade-goers paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew; uncovering artefacts during an archaeological dig at the site in 2003; watching a telecast of NDP from home in 2020 as the nation celebrated in the thick of the Covid-19 pandemic.
